अहम् ज्ञात्वा नर व्याघ्र वर्तमानम् अदूरतः ।
ब्रह्म लोकम् न गच्छामि त्वाम् अदृष्ट्वा प्रिय अतिथिम् ॥ ॥३-५-२९॥
aham jñātvā nara vyāghra vartamānam adūrataḥ । brahma lokam na gacchāmi tvām adṛṣṭvā priya atithim ॥ ॥3-5-29॥
Translation
Knowing, O tiger among men, that you were present not far away, I did not go to Brahmaloka without seeing you, my dear guest.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे नरव्याघ्र! यह जानकर कि आप पास ही (अदूरतः) मौजूद हैं, मैं आपको, अपने प्रिय अतिथि को, देखे बिना ब्रह्मलोक नहीं गया।
English Commentary
This verse is the emotional core of the encounter. Sarabhanga confesses that he postponed his liberation (departure to Brahmaloka) solely because he knew Rama was nearby (vartamanam aduratah). He addresses Rama as Nara Vyaghra (tiger among men) and priya atithim (dear guest). The theological implication is profound: the joy of seeing the Avatar in person supersedes the joy of heavenly liberation. The sage prioritized the darshan (sight) of the Lord over the immediate enjoyment of his karmic rewards. It highlights the Vaishnava ideal that personal communion with the Divine is superior to abstract liberation or heavenly pleasures.

यह श्लोक 'भक्ति' की पराकाष्ठा है। ऋषि शरभंग कहते हैं कि उन्हें पता चल गया था कि राम पास ही हैं। इसलिए, उन्होंने ब्रह्मलोक जैसे सर्वोच्च सुख को भी त्याग दिया। उनके लिए परमात्मा (राम) का प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन, मुक्ति (ब्रह्मलोक) से भी बढ़कर है। वे राम को 'प्रिय अतिथिम्' कहते हैं। अतिथि वह है जिसके आने की तिथि न हो, लेकिन यहाँ राम वह अतिथि हैं जिनकी प्रतीक्षा युगों से हो रही थी। ऋषि का भाव यह है: "जब साक्षात् धर्म और ईश्वर मेरे द्वार पर आ रहे हैं, तो मैं किसी अन्य लोक में क्यों जाऊं?" यह राम के प्रति ऋषि के अगाध प्रेम और समर्पण को दर्शाता है। राम का दर्शन ही उनके जीवन का अब एकमात्र शेष लक्ष्य था।
