Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ददर्श अदूरतः तस्य तरुण आदित्य संनिभम् ।
पाण्डुर अभ्र घन प्रख्यम् चन्द्र मण्डल संनिभम् ॥ ॥३-५-८॥
dadarśa adūrataḥ tasya taruṇa āditya saṃnibham |
pāṇḍura abhra ghana prakhyam candra maṇḍala saṃnibham ॥3-5-8॥
Translation
Not far from him, Rama saw (a white umbrella) shining like the morning sun, resembling a dense white cloud cluster and the orb of the moon.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस रथ के निकट ही श्रीराम ने बाल-सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी, श्वेत मेघ के समूह जैसा और चन्द्रमण्डल के समान (एक श्वेत छत्र) देखा।
English Commentary
This verse uses a cluster of similes to describe the royal parasol (identified in the next verse): radiant like the young sun, white like a cloud mass, and cool like the moon. These potentially contradictory elements (heat of sun, cool of moon) highlight the supernatural beauty of the regalia. It serves to build anticipation for the visual focus on the insignia of power.

यहाँ राजछत्र (royal umbrella) का वर्णन है, यद्यपि 'छत्र' शब्द अगले श्लोक में आता है। उपमाओं की झड़ी—बाल सूर्य, श्वेत मेघ, और चन्द्र मंडल—उस छत्र की धवलता और कांति को बताने के लिए है। श्वेत छत्र सार्वभौम प्रभुत्व (sovereignty) का प्रतीक है। सूर्य की चमक और चन्द्रमा की शीतलता, दोनों गुण उस छत्र में समाहित हैं।
