षष्टि वर्ष सहस्राणि जातस्य मम रावण ।
पितृ पैतामहम् राज्यम् यथावत् अनुतिष्ठतः ॥३-५०-२०॥
ṣaṣṭi varṣa sahasrāṇi jātasya mama rāvaṇa |
pitṛ paitāmaham rājyam yathāvat anutiṣṭhataḥ ॥3-50-20॥
Translation
O Ravana, I have been alive for sixty thousand years, faithfully governing the kingdom of my ancestors.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे रावण! मुझे उत्पन्न हुए साठ हजार वर्ष हो चुके हैं और मैं अपने बाप-दादों के राज्य का विधिपूर्वक पालन करता आ रहा हूँ।
English Commentary
Jatayu asserts his authority and gravitas. By stating his age as sixty thousand years, he establishes seniority over Ravana, implying a vast reservoir of experience and endurance. This is not merely a biological fact but a statement of accumulated wisdom and spiritual merit. Mentioning his adherence to the hereditary kingdom ('pitṛ paitāmaham rājyam') emphasizes that he is a legitimate sovereign who upholds the established order, in stark contrast to Ravana, who acts as a disruptor and a thief. It serves as a formal declaration of his standing before he engages in a duel.

इस श्लोक में जटायु अपना परिचय और अपनी शक्ति का आधार बता रहे हैं। 'साठ हजार वर्ष' की आयु उनकी अपार अनुभव और प्राचीनता का प्रमाण है। यह केवल उम्र की गिनती नहीं, बल्कि तप और शासन के अनुभव का द्योतक है। 'पितृ पैतामहम् राज्यम्' कहकर वे यह स्पष्ट करते हैं कि वे कोई साधारण पक्षी नहीं, बल्कि एक प्रतिष्ठित राजा हैं जिसका अपना एक कुल और अधिकार क्षेत्र है। वे रावण को यह बता रहे हैं कि उसका सामना किसी अनुभवहीन योद्धा से नहीं, बल्कि एक ऐसे वृद्ध से है जिसने युगों को देखा है और जो धर्मपूर्वक (यथावत्) राज्य करता आया है।
