किम् नु शक्यम् मया कर्तुम् गतौ दूरम् नृप आत्मजौ ।
क्षिप्रम् त्वम् नश्यसे नीच तयोः भीतो न संशयः ॥३-५०-२५॥
kim nu śakyam mayā kartum gatau dūram nṛpa ātmajau |
kṣipram tvam naśyase nīca tayoḥ bhīto na saṃśayaḥ ॥3-50-25॥
Translation
What indeed can I do, now that the princes have gone far away? O Vile One, you are fleeing quickly out of fear of them, without a doubt; you shall perish.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(खेद है कि) राजकुमार (राम और लक्ष्मण) दूर चले गए हैं, अब मैं अकेला क्या कर सकता हूँ? अरे नीच! निस्संदेह तुम उन्हीं के डर से भाग रहे हो और शीघ्र ही नष्ट हो जाओगे।
English Commentary
Jatayu addresses the tactical reality. The rhetorical question "What can I do?" highlights the unfortunate absence of the protectors, Rama and Lakshmana, leaving the elderly bird as the sole defense. However, he immediately pivots to attacking Ravana's character, calling him 'nīca' (vile/lowly). Jatayu accurately diagnoses Ravana's haste not as speed of travel, but as flight born of terror ('bhīto'). He exposes the cowardice behind the abduction—Ravana dared not face the princes and is now running away precisely because he fears their return. Jatayu asserts this fear will not save him from destruction.

इस श्लोक की पहली पंक्ति में जटायु का आत्म-विषाद (Self-pity/Helplessness) नहीं, बल्कि स्थिति की विडंबना है। वे कहते हैं कि राम-लक्ष्मण दूर हैं, इसलिए सारा भार उन पर आ पड़ा है। दूसरी पंक्ति में वे रावण को 'नीच' कहते हुए उसकी असलियत उजागर करते हैं। रावण का यह कृत्य वीरता नहीं, कायरता है क्योंकि उसने राम की अनुपस्थिति का लाभ उठाया है। 'तयोः भीतो' (उन दोनों के डर से) - जटायु स्पष्ट करते हैं कि रावण का यह शीघ्र पलायन केवल राम-लक्ष्मण के भय के कारण है।
