ततो अस्य सशरम् चापम् मुक्ता मणि विभूषितम् ।
चरणाभ्याम् महातेजा बभंज पतगोत्तमः ॥३-५१-१०॥
tato asya saśaram cāpam muktā maṇi vibhūṣitam |
caraṇābhyām mahātejā babhaṃja patagottamaḥ ॥3-51-10॥
Translation
Then, the high-spirited Best of Birds broke his (Ravana's) bow, which was adorned with pearls and gems and loaded with an arrow, using his two feet.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर, महातेजस्वी पक्षीराज ने मोतियों और मणियों से सजाए हुए, बाण सहित उसके (रावण के) धनुष को अपने दोनों पैरों से तोड़ दिया।
English Commentary
Jatayu scores a significant tactical victory in this verse. Despite his injuries, he targets the source of Ravana's offense: the bow. The bow is described as lavishly decorated with pearls and gems, symbolizing Ravana's arrogance and wealth. By breaking it ('babhaṃja') with his feet, Jatayu effectively disarms the demon king temporarily. The fact that the bow was 'saśaram' (loaded with an arrow) implies Jatayu struck just in time to prevent another discharge. It is a testament to the 'Great Splendor' (mahātejā) of the bird, proving he is still a formidable opponent capable of humiliating the Lord of Lanka.

यह इस चरण का निर्णायक क्षण है। घायल होने के बाद भी जटायु ने अद्भुत पराक्रम दिखाया। उन्होंने रावण के मुख्य हथियार—उसके धनुष—को ही नष्ट कर दिया। वह धनुष साधारण नहीं था, 'मुक्ता मणि विभूषितम्' (मोती-मणियों से जड़ा) था, जो रावण के राजसी ठाठ को दिखाता था। जटायु ने उसे 'चरणाभ्याम्' (पैरों से) तोड़ दिया। एक पक्षी द्वारा महारथी रावण का धनुष तोड़ना एक बहुत बड़ी सामरिक विजय है। इससे रावण कुछ क्षण के लिए निहत्था हो जाता है। 'महातेजा' विशेषण जटायु के इस अंतिम, ज्वलंत प्रयास के लिए सर्वथा उपयुक्त है।
