ततो अन्यत् धनुः आदाय रावणः क्रोध मूर्च्छितः ।
ववर्ष शर वर्षाणि शतशो अथ सहस्रशः ॥३-५१-११॥
tato anyat dhanuḥ ādāya rāvaṇaḥ krodha mūrcchitaḥ |
vavarṣa śara varṣāṇi śataśo atha sahasraśaḥ ॥3-51-11॥
Translation
Then Ravana, overwhelmed by rage, took up another bow and rained down arrows by the hundreds and thousands.

तब क्रोध से मूढ़ हुए रावण ने दूसरा धनुष लेकर सैकड़ों और हजारों बाणों की वर्षा कर दी।
English Commentary
Ravana's reaction to being disarmed is immediate and furious. The phrase 'krodha mūrcchitaḥ' suggests a blind, senseless rage; his ego is severely bruised by a bird's success. However, as a seasoned warrior (Maharathi), he is well-prepared and instantly equips himself with another bow. The imagery of 'raining' (vavarṣa) arrows in the hundreds and thousands highlights the sheer volume of his counter-attack. It is an attempt to overwhelm Jatayu through saturation fire, ensuring the bird has no space to maneuver. This verse underscores the immense magical and martial resources at the Demon King's disposal.

जब जटायु ने रावण का पहला धनुष तोड़ दिया, तो रावण का क्रोध सीमा पार कर गया ('क्रोध मूर्च्छितः')। एक महारथी होने के नाते, रावण के पास शस्त्रों की कमी नहीं थी। उसने तुरंत दूसरा धनुष उठाया। 'ववर्ष' (वर्षा की) शब्द का प्रयोग यह दर्शाता है कि रावण ने जटायु को संभलने का कोई अवसर नहीं दिया। 'शतशो अथ सहस्रशः' (सैकड़ों और हजारों) बाणों का उल्लेख रावण की असीमित शक्ति और युद्ध कौशल को प्रदर्शित करता है। वह जटायु को बाणों के समुद्र में डुबो देना चाहता था ताकि यह वृद्ध पक्षी पुन: आक्रमण न कर सके।
