पूर्ण चन्द्र प्रतीकाशम् छत्रम् च व्यजनैः सह ।
पातयामास वेगेन ग्राहिभी राक्षसैः सह ॥३-५१-१७॥
pūrṇa candra pratīkāśam chatram ca vyajanaiḥ saha |
pātayāmāsa vegena grāhibhī rākṣasaiḥ saha ॥3-51-17॥
Translation
He forcefully knocked down the umbrella that shone like the full moon and the fly-whisks, along with the demons holding them.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(जटayu ने) पूर्ण चंद्रमा के समान चमकते हुए (रावण के) छत्र और चँवरों को, उन्हें धारण करने वाले राक्षसों सहित वेगपूर्वक नीचे गिरा दिया।
English Commentary
This verse signifies the stripping of Ravana's royal dignity. The white umbrella ('chatram') and fly-whisks ('vyajanaih') are ancient symbols of sovereignty. By knocking them down, along with the attendants holding them, Jatayu symbolically dethrones Ravana. The comparison of the umbrella to the 'full moon' contrasts with the dark deeds of the demon. Jatayu’s attack is comprehensive; he is dismantling not just the warrior's weapons, but the king's aura of authority, leaving him exposed and unattended in the sky.

प्राचीन युद्धों में राजा के साथ सेवक चलते थे जो छत्र (Royal Umbrella) और चंवर (Fly-whisks) धारण करते थे। ये राजसत्ता के प्रतीक होते हैं। जटayu ने न केवल रथ तोड़ा, बल्कि रावण के सिर पर तने हुए 'पूर्ण चन्द्र प्रतीकाशम्' (पूर्णमासी के चाँद जैसे सफेद) छत्र को और चंवरों को भी गिरा दिया। साथ ही, उन सेवकों (राक्षसों) को भी मार गिराया। यह रावण का पूर्ण अपमान (Total Humiliation) है। जटayu ने सिद्ध कर दिया कि सीता का अपहरण करने वाला राजा कहलाने योग्य नहीं है।
