Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तम् प्रहृष्टम् निधाय अंके रावणम् जनक आत्मजाम् ।
गच्छंतम् खड्ग शेषम् च प्रणष्ट हत साधनम् ॥३-५१-२२॥
tam prahṛṣṭam nidhāya aṃke rāvaṇam janaka ātmajām |
gacchantam khaḍga śeṣam ca praṇaṣṭa hata sādhanam ॥3-51-22॥
Translation
(Jatayu saw) Ravana, who had only a sword remaining and whose other equipment was destroyed, going away happily, holding Janaka's daughter in his lap.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिसके पास केवल खड्ग (तलवार) बचा था और जिसके अन्य सभी साधन नष्ट हो चुके थे, ऐसे उस प्रसन्न रावण को जनकनन्दिनी सीता को गोद में लेकर जाते हुए (देखकर जटayu ने... आगे की क्रिया अगले श्लोक में है)।
English Commentary
This verse describes Ravana's state as he attempts to flee. He is reduced to 'khadga shesham' (having only a sword remaining), a shadow of the fully armed warrior who arrived. Yet, he is 'prahrushtam' (very happy) because he believes he has outlasted the old bird. He is described as 'gacchantam' (going/moving), trying to escape with Sita ('Janaka atmajam'). The contrast between his ruined state (all means destroyed) and his joy at escaping highlights his singular obsession with abducting Sita, regardless of the cost to his honor or weaponry.
हिंदी टीका
यह श्लोक स्थिति का एक 'स्नैपशॉट' (Snapshot) है। रावण 'खड्ग शेषम्' है—उसके पास केवल तलवार बची है, बाकी सब 'प्रणष्ट' (नष्ट) हो चुका है। फिर भी वह 'प्रहृष्टम्' (अत्यंत खुश) है क्योंकि उसे लग रहा है कि वह बच निकला। वह सीता को गोद में लिए जा रहा है। यहाँ रावण की निर्लज्जता और जटayu की विवशता का चित्रण है। यद्यपि यह वाक्य अगले श्लोक में पूरा होता है (जहाँ जटayu उसे रोकते हैं), यहाँ यह दिखाता है कि रावण निहत्था होकर भी भागने में सफल हो रहा है।
