स मित्र बन्धुः स अमात्यः स बलः स परिच्छदः ।
विष पानम् पिबसि एतत् पिपासित इव उदकम् ॥ ॥३-५१-२५॥
Sa mitra bandhuḥ sa amātyaḥ sa balaḥ sa paricchadaḥ । Viṣa pānam pibasi etat pipāsita iva udakam ॥ ॥3-51-25॥
Translation
Along with your friends, relatives, ministers, army, and retinue, you will perish. You are drinking this poison like a thirsty man drinks water.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम अपने मित्रों, बन्धुओं, मंत्रियों, सेना और परिवार सहित नष्ट हो जाओगे। जैसे कोई प्यासा व्यक्ति (अनजाने में) पानी समझकर विष पी लेता है, वैसे ही तुम यह विषपान कर रहे हो।
English Commentary
Jatayu employs a striking simile here: a thirsty man drinking poison thinking it to be water. This illustrates Ravana's delusion (Maya). Driven by lust, Ravana perceives the abduction of Sita as a satisfaction of his desire (quenching thirst), whereas it is actually a lethal ingestion of poison that will kill him. The verse emphasizes collective responsibility and consequence. By listing friends, relatives, ministers, and armies, Jatayu warns that the king's immoral action will act as a systemic poison, destroying the entire political and social structure of Lanka. It serves as a commentary on leadership; when a leader is blinded by vice, they drag their entire following into the abyss along with them.

इस श्लोक में एक अत्यंत मार्मिक उपमा का प्रयोग किया गया है। जटायु कहते हैं कि रावण सीता का अपहरण नहीं कर रहा, बल्कि अज्ञानतावश विष पी रहा है। जैसे एक अत्यंत प्यासा व्यक्ति पानी और विष में भेद नहीं कर पाता और अपनी मृत्यु को गले लगा लेता है, वैसे ही कामातुर रावण अपने विनाश को नहीं देख पा रहा है। 'स मित्र बन्धुः' और 'स अमात्यः' शब्दों का प्रयोग यह बताने के लिए किया गया है कि राजा का पाप उसके पूरे राज्य तंत्र को ले डूबता है। रावण का यह कृत्य उसके मंत्रियों, सेना और सगे-संबंधियों के लिए मृत्यु का प्याला बन जाएगा। यह कर्म के सिद्धांत को रेखांकित करता है कि मोह और वासना व्यक्ति की बुद्धि को इस कदर हर लेते हैं कि उसे विनाश में भी सुख (पानी) का आभास होता है।
