Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तथा गृध्र राजेन क्लिश्यमानो मुहुर् मुहुः ।
अमर्ष स्फुरित ओष्ठः सन् प्राकंपत स राक्षसः ॥ ॥३-५१-३६॥
sa tathā gṛdhra rājena kliśyamāno muhur muhuḥ । amarṣa sphurita oṣṭhaḥ san prākaṃpata sa rākṣasaḥ ॥ ॥3-51-36॥
Translation
Being tormented repeatedly in this manner by the King of Vultures, that demon (Ravana) began to tremble with rage, his lips quivering in intolerance and fury.

गृध्रराज जटायु द्वारा बार-बार इस प्रकार पीड़ित किए जाने पर वह राक्षस (रावण) क्रोध से कांपने लगा और अमर्ष (सहन न कर पाने के भाव) से उसके होंठ फड़कने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse captures the psychological impact of the battle on Ravana. The phrase muhur muhuḥ (again and again) indicates that Jatayu’s assault was relentless, giving the Demon King no respite. Ravana, accustomed to easy victories over celestial beings, finds himself humiliated by a bird. The quivering of his lips (sphurita oṣṭhaḥ) is a visceral detail showing his loss of composure and the rising tide of amarṣa—a complex emotion combining indignation, intolerance, and wrath. Ravana is trembling not from fear, but from the sheer indignity of the situation. This marks a shift in the battle's intensity; Ravana realizes that this is not a trivial nuisance but a genuine threat to his pride and objective, prompting him to channel his full demonic fury.

यहाँ रावण की मानसिक और शारीरिक स्थिति का वर्णन है। 'मुहुर् मुहुः' (बार-बार) शब्द यह दर्शाता है कि जटायु का आक्रमण एक बार का नहीं था, बल्कि निरंतर था। रावण, जो देवताओं और यक्षों को पराजित कर चुका था, एक पक्षी द्वारा इस प्रकार सताए जाने पर लज्जा और क्रोध मिश्रित 'अमर्ष' से भर गया। होंठों का फड़कना उसके भीतर उबलते हुए अनियंत्रित क्रोध का शारीरिक लक्षण है। वह अपनी शक्ति के अहंकार में यह स्वीकार नहीं कर पा रहा था कि एक वृद्ध पक्षी उसे इतनी कड़ी चुनौती दे सकता है। यह श्लोक युद्ध के उस मोड़ को दर्शाता है जहाँ रावण का धैर्य टूट जाता है और वह अपनी पूरी राक्षसी शक्ति का प्रयोग करने के लिए विवश हो जाता है। जटायु ने रावण के अहंकार को गहरी चोट पहुंचाई थी।
