जटायुः तम् अतिक्रम्य तुण्डेन अस्य खग अधिपः ।
वाम बाहून् दश तदा व्यपाहरत् अरिन्दमः ॥ ॥३-५१-३८॥
jaṭāyuḥ tam atikramya tuṇḍena asya khaga adhipaḥ । vāma bāhūn daśa tadā vyapāharat arindamaḥ ॥ ॥3-51-38॥
Translation
Then, the suppressor of enemies, the King of Birds Jatayu, dodging that blow and maneuvering past him, severed Ravana's ten left arms with his beak.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले खगराज जटायु ने उस (प्रहार) को बचाकर और आगे बढ़कर, अपनी चोंच से रावण की बाईं ओर की दसों भुजाओं को उखाड़ दिया।
English Commentary
This moment represents the zenith of Jatayu's martial prowess. He is described as arindamaḥ (tamer of enemies), a title usually reserved for great warrior kings. Jatayu strategically targets the vāma bāhūn (left arms) because that is where Ravana was holding Sita. By severing these specific arms, Jatayu aimed to force Ravana to drop her. The physical feat of shearing through ten demon arms with a beak is immense, highlighting the supernatural strength infused by his righteous cause. It shows that Jatayu was not flailing blindly but fighting with tactical precision. He successfully dodged Ravana’s blow and countered with a devastating strike intended to disarm the kidnapper and liberate the captive.

यह जटायु के पराक्रम का सर्वोच्च शिखर है। 'अरिन्दमः' (शत्रुदमनकारी) विशेषण यहाँ जटायु के लिए प्रयुक्त हुआ है। रावण ने सीता को बाईं ओर पकड़ा हुआ था, इसीलिए जटायु ने जानबूझकर रावण की 'वाम बाहून्' (बाईं भुजाओं) को लक्ष्य बनाया ताकि सीता मुक्त हो सकें। एक वृद्ध पक्षी द्वारा महाबली रावण की दस भुजाओं को एक साथ चोंच से काट डालना साधारण घटना नहीं है, यह जटायु की राम-भक्ति और धर्म-बल का परिचायक है। उन्होंने रावण के प्रहार को न केवल विफल किया बल्कि प्रतिशोध में उसे गंभीर घाव दिया। यह दर्शाता है कि जटायु का लक्ष्य केवल रावण को मारना नहीं, बल्कि माता सीता को सुरक्षित छुड़ाना था, इसलिए उन्होंने उन्हीं हाथों पर वार किया जो सीता को जकड़े हुए थे।
