ततो नालीक नाराचैः तीक्ष्ण अग्रैः च विकर्णिभिः ।
अभ्यवर्षत् महाघोरैः गृध्र राजम् महाबलः ॥३-५१-४॥
tato nālīka nārācaiḥ tīkṣṇa agraiḥ ca vikarṇibhiḥ |
abhyavarṣat mahāghoraiḥ gṛdhra rājam mahābalaḥ ॥3-51-4॥
Translation
Then, the mighty Ravana rained down terrible arrows—Nalikas, Narachas, and Vikarnis with sharp points—upon the King of Vultures.

तदनन्तर, महाबली रावण ने गृध्रराज जटायु पर तीखी नोक वाले नालीक, नाराच और विकर्णी (बाणों के प्रकार) आदि महाभयंकर बाणों की वर्षा कर दी।
English Commentary
Ravana initiates the offensive with a barrage of specialized weaponry. The verse lists specific types of arrows: 'Nalika' (tubular/reed arrows), 'Naracha' (iron arrows), and 'Vikarni' (barbed/ear-shaped arrows designed to tear flesh upon extraction). This technical detail highlights Ravana's mastery of archery and his intent to inflict maximum damage. The verb 'abhyavarṣat' (rained down) conveys the density of the attack; Jatayu is being engulfed in a storm of sharp steel.
