स तैः बाणैः महावीर्यः पूर्ण मुक्तैः अजिह्म गैः ।
बिभेद निशितैः तीक्ष्णैः गृध्रम् घोरैः शिली मुखैः ॥३-५१-८॥
sa taiḥ bāṇaiḥ mahāvīryaḥ pūrṇa muktaiḥ ajihma gaiḥ |
bibheda nišitaiḥ tīkṣṇaiḥ gṛdhram ghoraiḥ śilī mukhaiḥ ॥3-51-8॥
Translation
The mighty Ravana, pulling the bowstring fully, pierced the Vulture with those straight-flying, sharp, whetted, and terrible iron-tipped arrows.

महावीर्यवान रावण ने उन सीधे जाने वाले (लक्ष्य न चूकने वाले), तीखे, पैने और भयंकर शिलीमुख (भ्रमर/बाण) बाणों को पूरी ताकत से खींचकर छोड़ा और जटायु को भेद डाला।
English Commentary
This verse describes the successful impact of Ravana's attack. The arrows are described as 'ajihma gaiḥ' (going straight/not crooked), implying high velocity and perfect aim. Ravana draws the bow to its full extent ('pūrṇa muktaiḥ') to maximize penetration power. The verb 'bibheda' (pierced/split) confirms that the arrows successfully struck and wounded Jatayu. The accumulation of adjectives—sharp, terrible, iron-tipped—emphasizes the brutality of the injury inflicted upon the aged bird, highlighting the physical toll the battle is taking on him.

रावण ने पूरी शक्ति ('पूर्ण मुक्तैः') और सटीकता ('अजिह्म गैः' - टेढ़े न चलने वाले, यानी सीधे लक्ष्य पर लगने वाले) के साथ बाण चलाए। 'बिभेद' (भेद डाला) शब्द से स्पष्ट है कि बाण जटायु के शरीर के पार हो गए या गहरे धंस गए। 'शिली मुखैः' बाणों का एक प्रकार है। यह जटायु के लिए अत्यधिक पीड़ा का क्षण है। रावण का 'महावीर्य' (बड़ा पराक्रमी) होना यहाँ उसके प्रहार की शक्ति को सिद्ध करता है। वृद्ध जटायु अब गंभीर रूप से घायल हो चुके हैं, फिर भी युद्ध जारी है।
