तस्याः कौशेयम् उद्धूतम् आकाशे कनक प्रभम् ।
बभौ च आदित्य रागेणा ताम्रम् अभ्रम् इव आतपे ॥ ॥३-५२-१७॥
tasyāḥ kauśeyam uddhūtam ākāśe kanaka prabham । babhau ca āditya rāgeṇa tāmram abhram iva ātape ॥ ॥3-52-17॥
Translation
Her silk garment, shining like gold and fluttering in the sky, appeared like a cloud tinged with copper hues in the sunlight (sunset).

आकाश में उड़ता हुआ उनका वह स्वर्ण जैसी आभा वाला रेशमी वस्त्र, सूर्य की लालिमा से युक्त बादलों के समान सुशोभित हो रहा था।
English Commentary
Valmiki continues to paint the sky with colors. Sita's garment ('kausheyam'), which is golden ('kanaka prabham'), catches the light of the sun. The poet compares this sight to a cloud turning copper-red ('tamram abhram') under the intense rays of the sun. This simile serves to blend the human drama with the cosmic setting. The "copper" color suggests the reddish hue of the sun, perhaps indicating the heat of the moment or a sunset setting. Even as a chaotic crime is in progress, the visual created in the sky is ironically majestic, resembling the natural phenomenon of sunlit clouds.

यहाँ पुनः सीता जी के वस्त्रों के सौंदर्य का वर्णन है जो आकाश में एक प्राकृतिक दृश्य जैसा प्रतीत हो रहा है। 'कनक प्रभम्' का अर्थ है सोने जैसी चमक। जब सूर्य की किरणें उस उड़ते हुए वस्त्र पर पड़ती हैं, तो वह 'ताम्रम् अभ्रम्' (तांबे के रंग के बादल) जैसा दिखता है। कवि आकाश की पृष्ठभूमि का उपयोग करते हुए इस अपहरण की घटना को एक विशाल कैनवास पर चित्रित कर रहे हैं। यह उपमा इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि यह समय संभवतः सायं या दिन का वह पहर है जब सूर्य का प्रकाश तीव्र होता है, और सीता का वस्त्र आकाश में एक रक्तवर्णी (लाल-ताम्र) बादल जैसा भ्रम उत्पन्न कर रहा है, जो खतरे और सुंदरता दोनों का मिश्रित संकेत है।
