Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
बभूव जलदम् नीलम् भित्त्वा चन्द्र इव उदितः ।
सु ललाटम् सु केश अंतम् पद्म गर्भ आभम् अव्रणम् ॥ ॥३-५२-१९॥
babhūva jaladam nīlam bhittvā candra iva uditaḥ । su lalāṭam su keśa antam padma garbha ābham avraṇam ॥ ॥3-52-19॥
Translation
Her unblemished face, possessing a beautiful forehead and lovely hair endings, glowing like the inside of a lotus, appeared like the moon rising after piercing through a blue rain-cloud.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(रावण की छाती से सटा हुआ) उनका वह निष्कलंक मुख, जिसका ललाट और केश-पाश अत्यंत सुंदर था और जिसकी कांति कमल के भीतरी भाग जैसी थी, नीले बादल को चीरकर निकले हुए चंद्रमा के समान दिखाई देता था।
English Commentary
The imagery creates a stark contrast between dark and light. Ravana is likened to a blue rain-cloud ('jaladam nilam'), and Sita’s face is the moon ('chandra'). Her face against his chest looks like the moon breaking through dark storm clouds. The description focuses on her delicate features—a beautiful forehead ('su lalatam'), fine hair, and a complexion resembling the soft, pale-pink interior of a lotus ('padma garbha abham'). The word 'avranam' (unwounded/unblemished) suggests that while her heart is wounded, her divine beauty remains physically untouched and radiant, standing out sharply against the dark, demonic background of her captor.

यहाँ रावण और सीता के शारीरिक वर्ण के विरोधाभास को पुनः उभारा गया है। रावण का शरीर 'नील जलद' (नीले/काले बादल) के समान है। सीता जी का मुख चंद्रमा के समान है। जब सीता रावण के समीप हैं, तो ऐसा लगता है मानो चंद्रमा काले बादलों को चीर कर बाहर आ रहा हो। सीता के मुख की उपमा 'पद्म गर्भ आभम्' (कमल के भीतरी हिस्से की आभा) से दी गई है, जो अत्यंत कोमल और गुलाबी-सफेद होता है। 'अव्रणम्' (घाव रहित/निष्कलंक) शब्द बताता है कि संघर्ष के बावजूद उनके मुख की दिव्यता अक्षुण्ण है। यह श्लोक अंधकार (रावण) के बीच प्रकाश (सीता) के संघर्ष और उपस्थिति का प्रतीक है।
