Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शुक्लैः सु विमलैर् दन्तैः प्रभावद्भिः अलंकृतम् ।
तस्याः सु नयनम् वक्त्रम् आकाशे रावण अंक गम् ॥ ॥३-५२-२०॥
śuklaiḥ su vimalair dantaiḥ prabhāvadbhiḥ alaṃkṛtam । tasyāḥ su nayanam vaktram ākāśe rāvaṇa aṅka gam ॥ ॥3-52-20॥
Translation
Adorned with white, purely distinct, and radiant teeth, and beautiful eyes, her face appeared (striking) in the sky while in Ravana's grasp.
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्वेत, अत्यंत निर्मल और चमकदार दाँतों तथा सुंदर नेत्रों से सुशोभित उनका मुख, आकाश में रावण की गोद में (विचित्र) दिखाई दे रहा था।
English Commentary
Valmiki zooms in on the details of Sita's face. Her teeth are described as white ('shuklaih'), spotless ('vimalaih'), and radiant ('prabhavadbhih'). Coupled with her beautiful eyes, her face remains a vision of beauty. However, the context provided by the phrase 'Ravana anka gam' (in Ravana's lap/grasp) creates a disturbing image. It forces the reader to witness supreme purity and beauty trapped in the clutches of monstrosity. The detailed description of her features serves to humanize Sita and emphasizes the tragedy—that such a delicate and beautiful being is subject to such brutality high up in the sky.

यह श्लोक पिछले वर्णन का ही विस्तार है, जिसमें सीता जी के मुखमंडल के सूक्ष्म विवरण दिए गए हैं। उनके दाँत श्वेत ('शुक्लैः') और चमकदार हैं, और नेत्र सुंदर ('सु नयनम्') हैं। कवि यह बताना चाहते हैं कि शोक और विलाप की अवस्था में भी, जब वह संभवतः रो रही हैं या चिल्ला रही हैं, उनके अंगों का नैसर्गिक सौंदर्य बना हुआ है। 'रावण अंक गम्' (रावण की गोद/पकड़ में) वाक्यांश बार-बार यह याद दिलाता है कि इतनी सुंदरता एक भयानक राक्षस के अधिकार में है, जो पाठकों के मन में करुणा (Pathos) और जुगुप्सा (Disgust for Ravana) का मिश्रित भाव उत्पन्न करता है।
