उद्वीक्ष्य उद्वीक्ष्य नयनैः अस्र पात आविल ईक्षणाः ।
सुप्रवेपित गात्राः च बभूवुः वन देवताः ॥ ॥३-५२-४१॥
udvīkṣya udvīkṣya nayanaiḥ asra pāta āvila īkṣaṇāḥ । supravepita gātrāḥ ca babhūvuḥ vana devatāḥ ॥ ॥3-52-41॥
Translation
Glancing up repeatedly with eyes clouded by flowing tears, the forest deities trembled violently (in fear and sorrow).
हिंदी अनुवाद
बार-बार ऊपर (आकाश की ओर) देखकर, जिनके नेत्र आँसुओं के गिरने से धुंधले हो गए थे, वे वन-देवता भय से कांपने लगे।
English Commentary
The 'Vana devatas' (sylvan deities/spirits of the forest) are depicted here. Despite being supernatural beings, they are rendered helpless. They look up ('udvikshya') at the sky repeatedly, unable to tear their eyes away from the horror. Their vision is blurred by tears ('asra pata avila'). Their bodies tremble violently ('supravepita gatrah'), indicating a mix of sorrow for Sita and sheer terror of Ravana. This underscores Ravana's dominance; his power is such that it paralyzes even the demi-gods of the region, leaving them only to weep and tremble.

भौतिक जगत के बाद अब दैवीय जगत की प्रतिक्रिया है। वन-देवता (वन के संरक्षक अदृश्य शक्तियाँ) भी रावण के भय से और सीता के दुख से कांप रहे हैं ('सुप्रवेपित गात्राः')। वे 'उद्वीक्ष्य उद्वीक्ष्य' (बार-बार ऊपर देखकर) रावण की गति और सीता की दशा को देख रहे हैं, लेकिन हस्तक्षेप करने में असमर्थ हैं। उनकी आँखों में आँसू ('अस्र पात') हैं जिससे उनकी दृष्टि धुंधली हो गई है। यह रावण के आतंक (Terror) को दर्शाता है कि देवता भी उसके सामने विवश हैं। यह राम के अवतार के उद्देश्य को पुष्ट करता है—जब देवता भी असहाय हों, तब मनुष्य रूप में भगवान को ही दुष्ट का संहार करना पड़ता है।
