अवेक्षमाणाम् बहुशो वैदेहीम् धरणी तलम् ।
स ताम् आकुल केशान्ताम् विप्रमृष्ट विशेषकाम् ।
जहार आत्म विनाशाय दशग्रीवो मनस्विनाम् ॥ ॥३-५२-४३॥
avekṣamāṇām bahuśo vaidehīm dharaṇī talam । sa tām ākula keśāntām vipramṛṣṭa viśeṣakām । jahāra ātma vināśāya daśagrīvo manasvinām ॥ ॥3-52-43॥
Translation
... (continued) who was repeatedly looking at the ground, whose hair was dishevelled and tilaka (mark on forehead) wiped off; the Ten-necked one (Ravana) abducted that high-minded lady for his own destruction.

... (पिछले श्लोक से निरंतर) जो बार-बार धरती की ओर देख रही थीं, जिनके केश बिखर गए थे और तिलक मिट गया था; उस मनस्विनी वैदेही को दशग्रीव (रावण) ने अपने ही विनाश के लिए हर लिया।
English Commentary
This verse contains the prophetic phrase 'atma vinashaya' (for his own destruction). Ravana's act of carrying off Sita is identified not as a triumph, but as a suicide mission. Sita is described as 'manasvinam' (high-minded/spirited), implying she is not just a victim but a powerful moral force. She looks at the earth ('dharani talam') repeatedly, maintaining her connection to her mother (Earth) and looking for rescue. Her disheveled hair and wiped-off forehead mark ('vipramrishta visheshakam') symbolize the violation of her dignity. The poet explicitly states that by touching this chaste woman, Ravana has sealed his doom.

यह रामायण का एक अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण श्लोक है। यहाँ 'आत्म विनाशाय' (स्वयं के विनाश के लिए) पद निर्णायक है। रावण सोच रहा है कि वह एक स्त्री को ले जा रहा है, लेकिन वाल्मीकि कहते हैं कि वह अपनी "मृत्यु" को साथ ले जा रहा है। सीता जी 'धरणी तलम्' (पृथ्वी) को बार-बार देख रही हैं, शायद इस आशा में कि कोई चिह्न छोड़ सकें या राम-लक्ष्मण को देख सकें। उनके 'केश' बिखरे हैं और 'विशेषक' (तिलक/बिंदी) मिट गया है, जो उनके सुहाग और सम्मान पर हुए आघात का प्रतीक है। 'मनस्विनाम्' विशेषण सीता के दृढ़ चरित्र और आत्म-सम्मान को दर्शाता है।
