किम् शक्यम् कर्तुम् एवम् हि यत् जवेन एव धावसि ।
मुहूर्तम् अपि तिष्ठस्व न जीवन् प्रतियास्यसि ॥३-५३-१०॥
kim śakyam kartum evam hi yat javena eva dhāvasi । muhūrtam api tiṣṭhasva na jīvan pratiyāsyasi ॥ ॥3-53-10॥
Translation
What can be done now, for you are running away with great speed? But if you stand even for a moment, you will not return alive.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(मेरे विलाप से) क्या हो सकता है, क्योंकि तुम तो वेग से भागे जा रहे हो। यदि तुम एक मुहूर्त (क्षण भर) भी ठहर जाओ, तो तुम जीवित नहीं लौट सकोगे (राम-लक्ष्मण आ जाएंगे)।
English Commentary
Sita acknowledges the reality of her situation—she is being carried away swiftly—but transforms this observation into a taunt. She implies that Ravana's speed is driven by the fear of pursuit rather than the urgency of travel. She issues a challenge: "Stand for just a moment." The implication is absolute; if Ravana were to pause long enough for Rama or Lakshmana to catch up, his death would be a certainty. "You will not return alive" showcases her supreme confidence in Rama's martial prowess. Even in captivity, she holds the moral and psychological high ground by asserting that Ravana's life is currently sustained only by his ability to run away, not by his ability to fight the Raghu princes.

सीता जी अपनी विवशता स्वीकार करती हैं कि रावण इतनी तेजी से भाग रहा है कि उनका विलाप कोई सुन नहीं सकता, लेकिन साथ ही वे रावण को एक भयंकर चुनौती भी देती हैं। वे कहती हैं कि तुम्हारी यह गति वीरता नहीं, बल्कि भय है। यदि तुम 'मुहूर्तम् अपि' (क्षण भर भी) रुकने का साहस करो, तो तुम जीवित नहीं बचोगे। यह सीता का राम और लक्ष्मण के पराक्रम पर अटूट विश्वास है। वे जानती हैं कि रावण तभी तक जीवित है जब तक वह राम की दृष्टि से दूर है। यह रावण को सीधे चुनौती है कि वह भागना बंद करे और परिणाम का सामना करे। यहाँ सीता एक अबला नारी के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि एक वीर पत्नी के रूप में बात कर रही हैं जो अपने पति की शक्ति को जानती है।
