उत्सहे शत्रु वशगा प्राणान् धारयितुम् चिरम् ।
न नूनम् च आत्मनः श्रेयः पथ्यम् वा समवेक्षसे ॥३-५३-१६॥
utsahe śatru vaśagā prāṇān dhārayitum ciram । na nūnam ca ātmanaḥ śreyaḥ pathyam vā samavekṣase ॥ ॥3-53-16॥
Translation
Being under the control of an enemy, I do not wish to sustain my life for long. Surely, you do not see what is beneficial or wholesome for yourself.

शत्रु के वश में पड़कर मैं अधिक समय तक प्राण धारण करने का उत्साह नहीं रखती। निश्चित रूप से तुम अपना श्रेय (भला) और पथ्य (हित) नहीं देख पा रहे हो।
English Commentary
In this concluding verse of the section, Sita reiterates her resolve and pities Ravana's blindness. She states clearly that she has no enthusiasm (na utsahe) to sustain her life while under the subjugation of an enemy. Her life is bound to her dignity and her husband; without them, she chooses death. Simultaneously, she observes that Ravana is spiritually and intellectually blind. He fails to perceive (na samavekṣase) what is śreyaḥ (spiritually good/superior) or pathyam (wholesome/beneficial) for himself. Sita diagnoses his condition: he is walking into a trap of his own making, blinded by lust and unable to see that releasing her is the only path to his survival. It is a tragic proclamation of the doom that awaits him due to his lack of foresight.

यह इन 12 श्लोकों के समूह का अंतिम श्लोक है। सीता जी पुनः दोहराती हैं कि शत्रु के अधीन होकर ('शत्रु वशगा') वे जीने की इच्छा नहीं रखतीं। 'न उत्सहे' (मेरा उत्साह नहीं है) यह दर्शाता है कि राम के बिना जीवन उनके लिए भार है। दूसरी पंक्ति में वे रावण की बुद्धि पर तरस खाती हैं। वे कहती हैं कि रावण अपनी आसन्न मृत्यु और विनाश को देख नहीं पा रहा है ('न समवेक्षसे')। काम और अहंकार ने उसकी दृष्टि को इतना धुंधला कर दिया है कि उसे अपना 'श्रेय' (कल्याण) और 'पथ्य' (हितकारी मार्ग) दिखाई नहीं दे रहा। सीता का यह कथन एक चेतावनी भी है और रावण के दुर्भाग्य पर एक टिप्पणी भी—कि विनाशकाले विपरीत बुद्धि। वह अपने विनाश को ही अपनी विजय समझ रहा है।
