Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पश्यामि इव हि कण्ठे त्वाम् काल पाश अवपाशितम् ।
यथा च अस्मिन् भय स्थाने न बिभेषि दशानन ॥ ॥३-५३-१८॥
Paśyāmi iva hi kaṇṭhe tvām kāla pāśa avapāśitam । Yathā ca asmin bhaya sthāne na bibheṣi daśānana ॥ ॥3-53-18॥
Translation
O Dashanana (Ten-headed one)! I see, as it were, the noose of Time (Death) fastened around your neck. That is why, even in this fearful situation, you do not feel afraid.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे दशानन! मैं तुम्हारे गले में काल (मृत्यु) का पाश बंधा हुआ सा देख रही हूँ, इसीलिए इस भय के स्थान (घोर पाप कर्म) में भी तुम डर नहीं रहे हो।
English Commentary
Sita is depicted here with the visionary power of a Pativrata (a chaste, devoted wife). She metaphorically—or perhaps spiritually—sees the Kalapasha (the noose of the God of Death) already tightened around Ravana's neck. In Vedic thought, once the noose of Time secures a soul, fear vanishes because judgment has already been passed; the being acts mechanically towards its end. Ravana’s lack of fear in such a dangerous situation (abducting the wife of a mighty warrior) is not bravery but the numbness of the damned. The use of "Dashanana" is ironic; despite having ten heads, he lacks the foresight to see the noose that Sita clearly perceives.

यहाँ सीताजी को एक भविष्यदृष्टा के रूप में दर्शाया गया है। पतिव्रता नारी के तेज से उन्हें रावण के सूक्ष्म शरीर पर 'कालपाश' (यमराज की रस्सी) दिखाई दे रही है। जब कालपाश किसी के गले में पड़ता है, तो उसका विवेक और भय समाप्त हो जाता है। रावण का निडर होना उसकी वीरता नहीं, बल्कि उसकी संवेदनशून्य मृत्यु-अवस्था है। सीताजी कह रही हैं कि तुम एक जीवित लाश के समान हो। 'दशानन' संबोधन यहाँ व्यंग्यात्मक है—दस सिर होने के बाद भी तुम्हारे पास एक भी सुबुद्धि नहीं है जो तुम्हें इस खतरे का आभास करा सके।
