कथयिष्यन्ति लोकेषु पुरुषाः कर्म कुत्सितम् ।
सुनृशम्सम् अधर्मिष्ठम् तव शौण्डीर्य मानिनः ॥३-५३-८॥
kathayiṣyanti lokeṣu puruṣāḥ karma kutsitam । sunṛśamsam adharmiṣṭham tava śauṇḍīrya māninaḥ ॥ ॥3-53-8॥
Translation
People in the worlds will speak of this despicable, extremely cruel, and unrighteous deed of yours, who pride yourself on your heroism.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम जो अपने आप को शूरवीर मानते हो, तुम्हारे इस अत्यंत क्रूर और अधर्मयुक्त कुत्सित कर्म की लोग संसार में (निंदापूर्ण) चर्चा करेंगे।
English Commentary
Sita strikes at Ravana’s vanity. Knowing that Ravana considers himself a great hero (śauṇḍīrya māninaḥ), she warns him that this specific act will define his legacy negatively. The world will not sing of his conquest but will speak of his cruelty (nṛśamsam) and lack of righteousness (adharmiṣṭham). Sita places his action in the court of public opinion, prophesying that he will be remembered with disgust rather than awe. For a warrior-king who craves glory, the threat of eternal infamy is a severe blow. She highlights the disconnect between his self-image as a mighty conqueror and the reality of his actions, which are merely cruel and cowardly. This is a psychological attack intended to pierce his arrogance.
हिंदी टीका
सीता जी रावण को उसके भविष्य की छवि (reputation) का भय दिखाती हैं। रावण को अपने 'शौण्डीर्य' (वीरता/बल) का बड़ा अभिमान है। सीता कहती हैं कि इतिहास और समाज तुम्हारे बल की नहीं, बल्कि तुम्हारे इस 'कुत्सित' (घिनौने) कर्म की चर्चा करेगा। वे उसके कृत्य को 'सुनृशम्सम्' (अत्यंत क्रूर) और 'अधर्मिष्ठम्' (अत्यंत अधर्मी) बताती हैं। एक राजा के लिए उसका यश ही उसका धन होता है। सीता उसे चेतावनी देती हैं कि उसने अपनी कीर्ति को सदा के लिए कलंकित कर लिया है। अब लोग उसे वीर नहीं, बल्कि एक कायर और अधर्मी अपहर्ता के रूप में याद रखेंगे। यह रावण के अहंकार पर प्रहार है, क्योंकि अहंकारी व्यक्ति अपनी निंदा सहन नहीं कर सकता।
