ह्रियमाणा तु वैदेही कंचित् नाथम् अपश्यती ।
ददर्श गिरि शृंगस्थान् पंच वानर पुंगवान् ॥ ॥३-५४-१॥
Hriyamāṇā tu vaidehī kaṃcit nātham apaśyatī । Dadarśa giri śṛṃgasthān paṃca vānara puṃgavān ॥ ॥3-54-1॥
Translation
While being carried away, and seeing no protector anywhere, Vaidehi (Sita) spotted five excellent Vanaras (monkeys) sitting on a mountain peak.

हरण की जाती हुई, और (आकाश में) किसी रक्षक को न देखती हुई वैदेही (सीता) ने पर्वत के शिखर पर बैठे हुए पांच वानर श्रेष्ठों को देखा।
English Commentary
This verse marks a pivotal plot point. Amidst her despair and the void of the sky where she sees no savior ("seeing no protector"), Sita spots the five Vanaras on the mountain peak (Mount Rishyamuka). These are Sugriva, Hanuman, and their ministers. Even in her trauma, Sita remains observant. This moment plants the seed for the Kishkindha Kanda (The Book of Kishkindha). Fate intervenes here; just as she loses hope of immediate rescue, she spots the very beings who will eventually become the instruments of her liberation.

यह रामायण की कथा का एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ (Turning point) है। आकाश मार्ग से जाते समय, घोर निराशा के बीच, सीता की दृष्टि पर्वत (ऋष्यमूक) पर पड़ती है। 'पंच वानर पुंगवान्' (पाँच श्रेष्ठ वानर) का उल्लेख सुग्रीव, हनुमान और उनके मंत्रियों की ओर संकेत है। यहाँ 'नाथम् अपश्यती' (किसी रक्षक को न पाकर) और वानरों को देखने के बीच का संबंध गहरा है—यही वानर भविष्य में उनके रक्षक और खोजकर्ता बनेंगे। यह विधाता द्वारा रचित संयोग है जो राम को सीता तक पहुँचने का मार्ग देगा।
