Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेषाम् मध्ये विशालाक्षी कौशेयम् कनक प्रभम् ।
उत्तरीयम् वरारोहा शुभानि आभरणानि च ॥ ॥३-५४-२॥
Teṣām madhye viśālākṣī kauśeyam kannaņasprabhām । Uttarīyam varārohā śubhāni ābharaṇāni ca ॥ ॥3-54-2॥
Translation
In their midst, the large-eyed lady of excellent hips (Sita) [threw down] her yellow silk upper garment, shining like gold, and her auspicious ornaments.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(श्लोक अधूरा प्रतीत होता है, क्रिया अगले श्लोकों में निहित है, परन्तु भाव पूर्ण है): उन वानरों के बीच में, विशाल नेत्रों वाली और सुंदर अंगों वाली सीता ने अपना सोने जैसी आभा वाला रेशमी उत्तरीय वस्त्र और शुभ आभूषण (गिरा दिए)।
English Commentary
This action demonstrates Sita's extraordinary presence of mind and intelligence amidst panic. Realizing verbal cries were futile in the sky, she creates a visual trail. She drops her "gold-shining silk" upper garment and jewelry specifically "in their midst" (among the Vanaras). She acts strategically, hoping these creatures will preserve the items as clues for her husband. While Ravana is blinded by arrogance, thinking he has succeeded, Sita has essentially planted the tracking device that will lead to his downfall. This creates the Abhijnana (token of recognition) essential for the narrative.

सीताजी की बुद्धिमत्ता (Presence of mind) यहाँ प्रकट होती है। विलाप करते हुए भी उन्होंने स्थिति का आकलन किया और 'अभिज्ञान' (पहचान/सुराग) छोड़ने का निर्णय लिया। उन्होंने अपना 'कनक प्रभम्' (सोने की चमक वाला) वस्त्र और आभूषण नीचे फेंके ताकि यदि राम उन्हें खोजते हुए आएं, तो उन्हें दिशा का ज्ञान हो सके। रावण, जो अपने वेग और अहंकार में चूर था, इस क्रिया को नहीं देख पाया। यह सीता का 'मूक संदेश' था जो बाद में राम और सुग्रीव की मित्रता का आधार बना।
