निर्यातयितुम् इच्छामि तत् च वैरम् अहम् रिपोः ।
न हि लप्स्यामि अहम् निद्राम् अहत्वा संयुगे रिपुम् ॥ ॥३-५४-२४॥
niryātayitum icchāmi tat ca vairam aham ripoḥ । na hi lapsyāmi aham nidrām ahatvā saṃyuge ripum ॥ ॥3-54-24॥
Translation
I wish to avenge that enmity against the enemy. Indeed, I shall not get sleep without killing the enemy in battle.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं शत्रु से उस वैर का बदला लेना चाहता हूँ। युद्ध में शत्रु (राम) को मारे बिना मुझे नींद नहीं आएगी।
English Commentary
This verse articulates the singular focus of Ravana's existence now: revenge. He explicitly states his desire to retaliate (niryātayitum). The hyperbole—that he will not sleep (na hi lapsyāmi nidrām) until the enemy is killed—illustrates the extent to which this enmity disturbs his peace of mind. Interestingly, he specifies killing the enemy saṃyuge (in battle). While he abducted Sita through deceit, his ultimate desire regarding Rama is a martial victory to restore the honor lost by Khara's defeat. This declaration reveals a restless monarch, haunted by the humiliation of his forces, driven by a compulsion to eliminate the source of that humiliation. It sets the stakes: for Ravana, coexistence with Rama is no longer possible.

रावण का संकल्प यहाँ दृढ़ होता है। 'निर्यातयितुम्' का अर्थ है बदला चुकाना या प्रतिशोध लेना। वह अपनी बेचैनी को व्यक्त करते हुए कहता है कि उसे तब तक 'निद्रा' (नींद/शांति) नहीं मिलेगी जब तक वह राम का वध नहीं कर देता। 'संयुगे' (युद्ध में) शब्द का प्रयोग करके वह यह संकेत देता है कि वह राम को छल से नहीं (जैसा उसने सीता हरण में किया), बल्कि अब युद्ध में मारकर अपने क्रोध को शांत करना चाहता है। यद्यपि उसने सीता का अपहरण छल से किया, लेकिन उसके मन में यह भाव है कि अंततः उसे राम का सामना करना होगा और उसे नष्ट करना होगा। यह श्लोक रावण की प्रतिशोध की अग्नि और उसकी मानसिक अशांति को दर्शाता है। राम का अस्तित्व अब उसके लिए असहनीय हो गया है।
