संभ्रमात् तु दशग्रीवः तत् कर्म न च बुद्ध्वान् ।
पिंगाक्षाः ताम् विशालाक्षीम् नेत्रैः अनिमिषैः इव ॥ ॥३-५४-४॥
Saṃbhramāt tu daśagrīvaḥ tat karma na ca buddhavān । Piṃgākṣāḥ tām viśālākṣīm netraiḥ animiṣaiḥ iva ॥ ॥3-54-4॥
Translation
Due to his haste and confusion, the Ten-headed Ravana did not perceive that action. However, the yellow-eyed monkeys watched the large-eyed Sita with unblinking gaze.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उतावली (शीघ्रता) के कारण दशग्रीव (रावण) को सीता के उस कार्य का पता नहीं चला। परन्तु, पीली आँखों वाले उन वानरों ने उस विशाल नेत्रों वाली सीता को अपलक नेत्रों से देखा।
English Commentary
This verse contrasts Ravana's blindness with the Vanaras' keen observation. Ravana is in a state of Sambhrama—flustered haste and arrogant excitement—which blinds him to the very action that will lead to his undoing. He misses the dropping of the jewelry. Conversely, the Vanaras, described as Pingakshas (yellow-eyed), watch intently, unblinking (animishaih). This moment creates a witness to the crime. It emphasizes a recurring theme: evil, in its arrogance, often overlooks the small details that eventually ensure justice.

यहाँ दो विरोधी मनोदशाओं का चित्रण है। रावण 'संभ्रम' (हड़बड़ाहट/उत्तेजना) में है, उसका ध्यान केवल सीता को ले जाने पर है, इसलिए वह उस महत्वपूर्ण सुराग को गिरते हुए नहीं देख पाता जो उसके विनाश का कारण बनेगा। दूसरी ओर, वानर 'अनिमिष' (बिना पलक झपकाए) देख रहे हैं। यह एक विचित्र दृश्य था—आकाश में एक राक्षसी आकृति और एक रोती हुई देवी। रावण का अज्ञान और वानरों की सतर्कता, दोनों ही नियति द्वारा निर्धारित हैं। यदि रावण देख लेता, तो वह चिन्ह नष्ट कर देता, और राम को सीता का पता कभी न चलता।
