संदिश्य राक्षसान् घोरान् रावणो अष्टौ महाबलान् ।
आत्मानम् बुद्धि वैक्लव्यात् कृत कृत्यम् अमन्यत ॥ ॥३-५५-१॥
saṃdiśya rākṣasān ghorān rāvaṇo aṣṭau mahābalān । ātmānam buddhi vaiklavyaat kṛta kṛtyam amanyata ॥ ॥3-55-1॥
Translation
Having instructed those eight terrible and mighty Rakshasas, Ravana, due to the perversion/folly of his mind, considered himself to have accomplished his purpose.

उन आठ महाबली और भयानक राक्षसों को आदेश देकर, रावण अपनी बुद्धि की विकलता (मूर्खता) के कारण स्वयं को कृतकृत्य (सफल) मानने लगा।
English Commentary
Sarga 55 opens by reinforcing Ravana's delusional state. After dispatching a mere eight soldiers to handle a threat that wiped out 14,000, Ravana considers his job done (kṛta kṛtyam). The text attributes this complacency to buddhi vaiklavyaat (perversion or confusion of the intellect). His judgment is clouded by lust and arrogance. He mistakenly believes he has neutralized the external threat of Rama, which allows him to turn his attention entirely to his internal desire. This sets the stage for his interactions with Sita, showing he is operating from a place of fundamental misunderstanding of reality.

सर्ग 55 की शुरुआत रावण की भ्रामक मानसिकता के चित्रण से होती है। उसने अभी केवल 8 सैनिक भेजे हैं, जो राम जैसे योद्धा के सामने नगण्य हैं, फिर भी वह 'कृत कृत्यम्' (जिसने अपना कार्य पूरा कर लिया हो) महसूस कर रहा है। वाल्मीकि इसे 'बुद्धि वैक्लव्यात्' (बुद्धि की व्याकुलता या विकार) कहते हैं। काम और क्रोध ने रावण की सोचने की क्षमता को कुंद कर दिया है। उसे लगता है कि जनस्थान सुरक्षित हो गया है और राम अब कुछ नहीं कर पाएगा। यह झूठी सुरक्षा की भावना (false sense of security) उसे अब अपने अगले विनाशकारी कदम—सीता को लुभाने—की ओर ले जाएगी।
