दान्तका राजताः चैव गवाक्षाः प्रिय दर्शनाः ।
हेम जाला आवृताः च आसन् तत्र प्रासाद पंक्तयः ॥ ॥३-५५-१०॥
dāntakā rājatāḥ caiva gavākṣāḥ priya darśanāḥ । hema jālā āvṛtāḥ ca āsan tatra prāsāda paṃktayaḥ ॥ ॥3-55-10॥
Translation
There were rows of palaces with beautiful windows made of ivory and silver, covered with golden lattices.

वहाँ महलों की कतारों में हाथीदांत और चांदी के बने सुंदर झरोखे (खिड़कियाँ) थे, जो सोने की जालियों से ढके हुए थे।
English Commentary
The architectural tour continues with a focus on the gavākṣāḥ (windows). They are crafted from ivory and silver and screened with hema jālā (golden lattices). This indicates extreme privacy and luxury—the ability to look out without being seen, through a screen of gold. By showing Sita rows of such palaces (prāsāda paṃktayaḥ), Ravana is emphasizing the scale of his empire. He wants Sita to visualize herself as the mistress of this immense wealth, hoping that the allure of such refined beauty will crack her resistance.

रावण की लंका वास्तुकला (architecture) का एक अद्भुत नमूना है। यहाँ 'गवाक्षाः' (झरोखे/खिड़कियाँ) का वर्णन है जो हाथीदांत ('दान्तका') और चांदी ('राजताः') के बने हैं। उन पर 'हेम जाला' (सोने की जालियां) लगी हैं। यह सब 'प्रिय दर्शनाः' (देखने में प्रिय) है। रावण सीता को यह सब इसलिए दिखा रहा है ताकि वह समझ सके कि वह किस विलासिता को ठुकरा रही है। यह केवल धन का प्रदर्शन नहीं, बल्कि कलात्मक अभिरुचि (artistic taste) का भी प्रदर्शन है। रावण यह सिद्ध करना चाहता है कि वह केवल एक बर्बर राक्षस नहीं, बल्कि एक सुसंस्कृत और वैभवशाली सम्राट है।
