दश राक्षस कोट्यः च द्वाविंशतिः अथ अपराः ।
वर्जयित्वा जरा वृद्धान् बालान् च रजनीचरान् ॥ ॥३-५५-१४॥
daśa rākṣasa koṭyaḥ ca dvāviṃśatiḥ atha aparāḥ । varjayitvā jarā vṛddhān bālān ca rajanīcarān ॥ ॥3-55-14॥
Translation
There are ten crores of Rakshasas and another twenty-two crores (under my command), excluding the elderly and the children night-wanderers.

(मेरे अधीन) दस करोड़ और दूसरे बाईस करोड़ (कुल ३२ करोड़) राक्षस हैं, जिनमें मैंने बूढ़ों और बालकों की गिनती नहीं की है।
English Commentary
Ravana begins his pitch with cold, hard statistics. He claims verify rule over 32 crores (320 million) of Rakshasas (daśa... dvāviṃśatiḥ). He explicitly excludes the old and the young, implying this is his effective workforce or military strength. This hyperbole serves to dwarf Rama's existence. How can a wandering exile with one brother compete with a king who commands hundreds of millions? Ravana is selling security and power. He wants Sita to understand the sheer magnitude of the protection and dominion he offers.

रावण अपने साम्राज्य की जनसांख्यिकीय (demographic) और सैन्य शक्ति का बखान करता है। वह ३२ करोड़ (१० + २२) राक्षसों का स्वामी होने का दावा करता है। महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि वह 'जरा वृद्धान् बालान् च' (बूढ़ों और बच्चों) को इसमें नहीं गिन रहा है, अर्थात् यह संख्या केवल युद्ध योग्य (combat-ready) या सक्रिय वयस्कों की है। यह राम की अकेलेपन और वनवासी स्थिति के विरुद्ध एक भारी शक्ति प्रदर्शन है। वह सीता को यह समझाना चाहता है कि राम इस विशाल समुद्र जैसी सेना के सामने कुछ भी नहीं हैं। यह भय और सुरक्षा (security) दोनों का तर्क है—'मेरे साथ रहोगी तो ३२ करोड़ रक्षक मिलेंगे'।
