आर्षो अयम् देवि निष्यन्दो यः त्वाम् अभिगमिष्यति ।
एतौ पादौ मया स्निग्धौ शिरोभिः परिपीडितौ ॥ ॥३-५५-३५॥
Ārṣo ayam devi niṣyando yaḥ tvām abhigamiṣyati । Etau pādau mayā snigdhau śirobhiḥ paripīḍitau ॥ ॥3-55-35॥
Translation
O Devi, this is the accepted course sanctioned by the sages (for Rakshasas) that approaches you. (See,) these tender feet of yours are being pressed by my heads.

हे देवि! यह (राक्षसों का) ऋषियों द्वारा अनुमोदित सनातन आचार (विवाह विधि) है, जो तुम्हें प्राप्त होगा। (देखो) तुम्हारे ये दोनों कोमल चरण मेरे सिरों द्वारा स्पर्श किए जा रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Ravana justifies the abduction by citing scripture twisted to his benefit. He claims this act is "Arsho nishyando"—a practice sanctioned by sages (referring to the Rakshasa form of marriage where a bride is seized by force). By calling it "accepted," he tries to legitimize his crime. More shockingly, the ten-headed demon king offers to bow his heads at her feet ("shirobhih paripiditau"). This is a massive gesture of submission from a being who refused to bow to the gods. It illustrates the overpowering nature of his lust; he is willing to debase himself completely to win her favor. He frames this submission as a sign of love ("snigdhau" - affectionate/tender feet), hoping that seeing the "Lord of Lanka" at her feet will melt her resolve.

रावण यहाँ 'राक्षस विवाह' की वकालत कर रहा है। वह कहता है 'आर्षो अयम् निष्यन्दो'—अर्थात यह ऋषियों द्वारा बताया गया मार्ग है (कि बलपूर्वक कन्या हरण क्षत्रिय/राक्षस के लिए विवाह का एक रूप है)। वह अपने पाप को शास्त्र सम्मत बताने का दुस्साहस कर रहा है। इसके बाद वह अपने अहंकार को पूरी तरह त्याग कर सीता के पैरों में गिरने की बात करता है—'शिरोभिः परिपीडितौ' (मेरे सिरों से तुम्हारे पैर स्पर्श/दबाए जा रहे हैं)। रावण जैसा महाबली, जिसने देवताओं को हराया, वह एक स्त्री के चरणों में सिर झुका रहा है। यह उसकी कामुकता (lust) की पराकाष्ठा है। कामवासना ने उसे इतना अंधा कर दिया है कि वह अपना आत्म-सम्मान खोकर दासवत् व्यवहार कर रहा है। वह सीता को 'देवि' कहता है, मानो वह उसे अपनी इष्टदेवता मान रहा हो, लेकिन यह भक्ति नहीं, केवल आसक्ति है।
