दान्तकैः तापनीयैः च स्फाटिकै राजतैः तथा ।
वज्र वैदूर्य चित्रैः च स्तम्भैः दृष्टि मनोरमैः ॥ ॥३-५५-८॥
dāntakaiḥ tāpanīyaiḥ ca sphāṭikai rājataiḥ tathā । vajra vaidūrya citraiḥ ca stambhaiḥ dṛṣṭi manoramaiḥ ॥ ॥3-55-8॥
Translation
With pillars made of ivory, gold, crystal, and silver, inlaid with diamonds and lapis lazuli, which were delightful to the sight.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(वहाँ के खंभे) हाथीदांत, सोने, स्फटिक (crystal) और चांदी के बने हुए थे। वे खंभे (स्तम्भ) वज्र (हीरे) और वैदूर्य मणियों से जड़े हुए थे और देखने में अत्यंत मनोरम थे।
English Commentary
The architectural opulence is detailed further to emphasize the allure of Lanka. The pillars (stambhaiḥ) are not mere structural supports but works of art made from ivory, refined gold, crystal, and silver. They are encrusted with diamonds (vajra) and lapis lazuli (vaidūrya). Described as dṛṣṭi manoramaiḥ (delightful to the eyes), these elements are designed to captivate the viewer. Ravana is deploying the weapon of sensory seduction. He assumes that the sheer aesthetic beauty and monetary value of his surroundings will compel Sita to reconsider her alliance, unaware that to Sita, this golden palace is nothing more than a prison.

रावण के महल की विलासिता का सूक्ष्म वर्णन (detailing) यहाँ किया गया है। खंभे साधारण पत्थर के नहीं, बल्कि 'दान्तकैः' (हाथीदांत), 'तापनीयैः' (तपाया हुआ शुद्ध सोना), 'स्फाटिकै' (क्रिस्टल) और 'राजतैः' (चांदी) के बने हैं। उनमें 'वज्र' (हीरे) और 'वैदूर्य' (लहसुनिया/cat's eye gem) जड़े हैं। 'दृष्टि मनोरमैः' (आंखों को सुख देने वाले) विशेषण बताता है कि यह दृश्य किसी को भी मोहित कर सकता है। रावण चाहता है कि सीता की दृष्टि राम के वियोग के अंधकार से हटकर इस चमक-दमक पर टिके। परन्तु सीता के लिए, राम के बिना यह सब व्यर्थ और तुच्छ है।
