Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वचनात् एव ताः तस्य विकृता घोर दर्शनाः ।
कृत प्रांजलयो भूत्वा मैथिलीम् पर्यवारयन् ॥ ॥३-५६-२८॥
Vacanāt eva tāḥ tasya vikṛtā ghora darśanāḥ । Kṛta prāṃjalayo bhūtvā maithilīm paryavārayan ॥ ॥3-56-28॥
Translation
Just upon his word, those deformed and terrible-looking ones, having joined their palms (in salutation to Ravana), surrounded Maithili.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसके (रावण के) आदेश मात्र से, वे विकृत और भयानक दिखने वाली राक्षसियां हाथ जोड़कर (रावण को प्रणाम कर) मैथिली (सीता) को चारों ओर से घेरकर खड़ी हो गईं।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the absolute authority Ravana holds. 'Vacanat eva' (at the mere word) signifies that his command is instant law. The Rakshasis, despite their grotesque nature, show servitude by joining their palms (a sign of respect) to Ravana before executing his will.

यह श्लोक राक्षस राज के रूप में रावण के पूर्ण नियंत्रण को दर्शाता है। 'वचनात् एव' (वचन निकलते ही) राक्षसियां सक्रिय हो गईं। यद्यपि वे देखने में भयानक हैं, लेकिन अपने स्वामी रावण के प्रति वे अत्यंत अनुशासित हैं ('कृत प्रांजलयो' - हाथ जोड़े हुए)।
