राक्षसम् मृग रूपेण चरन्तम् काम रूपिणम् ।
निहत्य रामो मारीचम् तूर्णम् पथि न्यवर्तत ॥३-५७-१॥
Rākṣasam mṛga rūpeṇa carantam kāma rūpiṇam । Nihatya rāmo mārīcam tūrṇam pathi nyavartata ॥ ॥3-57-1॥
Translation
Having killed the Rakshasa Maricha, who was wandering in the form of a deer and could change his form at will, Rama turned back quickly on the path.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(उधर) इच्छानुसार रूप धारण करने वाले, मृग (हिरण) के रूप में विचरने वाले राक्षस मारीच को मारकर, राम शीघ्रता से रास्ते पर लौट पड़े।
English Commentary
The narrative focus shifts sharply from Sita’s despair to Rama’s action. Rama has successfully killed Maricha. The word "turnam" (quickly) indicates urgency. Rama is not walking back leisurely; he is rushing. The description of Maricha as "kama rupinam" (shape-shifter) confirms that the illusion has been shattered, and Rama is now racing against time to return to the hermitage.

अब दृश्य बदलता है। हम लंका से वापस दंडकारण्य वन में आते हैं। श्रीराम ने मारीच का वध कर दिया है। 'तूर्णम्' (शीघ्रता से) शब्द बताता है कि राम को आभास हो गया है कि कुछ गलत है या देर हो चुकी है। मारीच के 'काम रूपिणम्' (इच्छानुसार रूप बदलने वाला) होने का उल्लेख यह पुष्टि करता है कि राम ने उसके छल को पहचान लिया है और उसका अंत कर दिया है।
