Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सव्यम् कृत्वा महात्मानम् घोराम् च ससृजुः स्वरान् ।
तानि दृष्ट्वा निमित्तानि महाघोराणि राघवः ।
न्यवर्तत अथ त्वरितो जवेन आश्रमम् आत्मनः ॥३-५७-१३॥
Savyam kṛtvā mahātmānam ghorām ca sasṛjuḥ svarān । Tāni dṛṣṭvā nimittāni mahāghorāṇi rāghavaḥ । Nyavartata atha tvarito javena āśramam ātmanaḥ ॥ ॥3-57-13॥
Translation
Keeping the great soul to their left, they emitted terrible sounds. Seeing those very terrible omens, Raghava rushed with even greater speed towards his hermitage.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन प्राणियों ने उस महात्मा (राम) को बाईं ओर (सव्यम्) रखकर भयानक आवाज़ें निकालीं। उन महाभयानक अपशकुनों को देखकर, राघव और अधिक शीघ्रता से अपने आश्रम की ओर लपके।
English Commentary
Specifically, the animals keeping Rama to their "savyam" (left) is a critical anti-clockwise circumambulation, which is traditionally inauspicious in Vedic culture (one keeps the divine/respectful to the right). Combined with "ghoram svaran" (terrible sounds), this is a definitive confirmational omen of doom. Rama reads this sign instantly and accelerates his pace ("tvarito javena").

शकुन शास्त्र में, शुभ कार्यों या व्यक्तियों की 'प्रदक्षिणा' (दाहिनी ओर रखना) की जाती है। यदि पशु किसी को 'सव्यम्' (बाईं ओर) रखते हैं, तो यह घोर अनिष्ट का सूचक है। यह संकेत मिलते ही राम की गति ('जवेन') और बढ़ गई। उन्हें अब विश्वास हो गया है कि कोई बड़ी दुर्घटना घट चुकी है।
