स तस्य स्वरम् आज्ञाय दारुणम् रोम हर्षणम् ।
चिंतयामास गोमायोः स्वरेण परिशन्कितः ॥३-५७-३॥
Sa tasya svaram ājñāya dāruṇam roma harṣaṇam । Ciṃtayāmāsa gomāyoḥ svareṇa pariśaṅkitaḥ ॥ ॥3-57-3॥
Translation
Recognizing that terrible, hair-raising voice, and becoming apprehensive due to the jackal's cry, he fell into deep thought.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस भयानक और रोंगटे खड़े कर देने वाले स्वर को पहचान कर, सियार की आवाज़ से आशंकित (डरे हुए) राम चिंता करने लगे।
English Commentary
Rama recognizes the significance of the omen. He is "parishankitah" (filled with apprehension). This shows Rama's attunement to his environment; he understands that the "darunam" (terrible) cry is not just a random animal sound but a warning. His reaction isn't fear for himself, but deep anxiety ("cintayamasa") regarding the safety of those he left behind.
हिंदी टीका
राम केवल योद्धा नहीं, बल्कि 'निमित्त कोविद' (शकुन-अपशकुन जानने वाले) भी हैं। वह उस आवाज को अनदेखा नहीं करते। 'रोम हर्षणम्' (रोंगटे खड़े करने वाला) स्वर सुनकर वह 'परिशन्कितः' (पूरी तरह आशंकित) हो जाते हैं। यह दिखाता है कि राम का मन पहले से ही किसी अनिष्ट की आशंका से घिरा हुआ था, और इस अपशकुन ने उसे पक्का कर दिया।
