दूरम् नीत्वा अथ मारीचो राक्षसो अभूत् शर आहतः ।
हा लक्ष्मण हतो अस्मि इति यत् वाक्यम् व्यजहार ह ॥३-५७-८॥
Dūram nītvā atha mārīco rākṣaso abhūt śara āhataḥ । Hā lakṣmaṇa hato asmi iti yat vākyam vyajahāra ha ॥ ॥3-57-8॥
Translation
Having led Rama far away, the Rakshasa Maricha was struck by an arrow. It was then that he uttered the sentence, "Alas Lakshmana, I am killed!"
हिंदी अनुवाद
राक्षस मारीच (राम को) बहुत दूर ले जाकर बाण से घायल हो गया था। तब उसने "हा लक्ष्मण! मैं मारा गया," यह वाक्य (राम की आवाज में) उच्चारित किया था।
English Commentary
Rama reconstructs the sequence of events in his mind. He realizes the tactical significance of Maricha leading him "duram" (far away) before dying. The cry "Ha Lakshmana" was not an accident but the final move of the Rakshasa's strategy. By recalling this specific detail, Rama confirms his worst fear: the diversion was intentional to leave the hermitage unguarded.
