Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अपि स्वस्ति भवेत् द्वाभ्याम् रहिताभ्याम् मया वने ।
जनस्थान निमित्तम् हि कृत वैरो अस्मि राक्षसैः ॥३-५७-९॥
Api svasti bhavet dvābhyām rahitābhyām mayā vane । Janasthāna nimittam hi kṛta vairo asmi rākṣasaiḥ ॥ ॥3-57-9॥
Translation
"May all be well with those two (Sita and Lakshmana) who are left without me in the forest. For I have created enmity with the Rakshasas on account of (the slaughter in) Janasthana."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"वन में मेरे बिना (अकेले रह गए) उन दोनों (सीता और लक्ष्मण) का कल्याण हो। जनस्थान (खर-दूषण वध) के कारण मैंने राक्षसों से वैर मोल ले लिया है।"
English Commentary
Rama reflects on the geopolitical consequences of his actions. By destroying the outpost of Janasthana, he has invited the vendetta of the Rakshasa race ("krta vairo asmi"). He understands that his absence from the hermitage provides the perfect opportunity for this retaliation. His prayer "Api svasti bhavet" (May there be safety) is tinged with the realization that he has left his family vulnerable in a war zone.

राम को अपनी पिछली विजय (खर-दूषण वध) के परिणाम याद आ रहे हैं। 'कृत वैरो अस्मि' (मैंने दुश्मनी कर ली है) - यह आत्म-चिंतन है। राम जानते हैं कि राजनीति और युद्ध में शत्रु हमेशा कमजोर कड़ी पर वार करता है। उनकी अनुपस्थिति में सीता और लक्ष्मण ही वह कमजोर कड़ी हैं। यहाँ राम एक योद्धा के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि एक चिंतित संरक्षक (guardian) के रूप में सोच रहे हैं।
