दुःखिताः खर घातेन राक्षसाः पिशित अशनाः ।
तैः सीता निहता घोरैः भविष्यति न संशयः ॥३-५८-१६॥
duḥkhitāḥ kharaghātena rākṣasāḥ piśitāśanāḥ |
taiḥ sītā nihatā ghoraiḥ bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ ॥3-58-16॥
Translation
The flesh-eating Rakshasas were aggrieved by the slaughter of Khara. By those terrible ones, Sita has undoubtedly been killed.

खर के वध से दुखी हुए वे मांसभक्षी राक्षस (आसपास ही थे)। उन घोर राक्षसों ने निस्संदेह सीता को मार डाला होगा।
English Commentary
Rama deduces the motive for the crime. The slaughter of Khara ('khara-ghatena') in Janasthana created a vendetta. He characterizes the enemies as 'pishita-ashanah' (flesh-eaters), emphasizing their savage nature. Rama concludes that since they could not defeat him in battle, they likely targeted the defenseless Sita for revenge. The phrase 'na samshayah' (without doubt) indicates that Rama has mentally prepared himself for the worst outcome—her death—based on the logic of retributive violence.

श्रीराम यहाँ राक्षसों के प्रतिशोध के कारण को स्पष्ट करते हैं। जनस्थान में खर और दूषण का वध (खर-घातेन) राक्षसों के क्रोध का कारण था। 'पिशित-अशनाः' (कच्चा मांस खाने वाले) विशेषण उनकी क्रूरता को दर्शाता है। श्रीराम निष्कर्ष निकालते हैं कि प्रतिशोध की आग में जलते हुए उन राक्षसों ने सीता को जीवित नहीं छोड़ा होगा। 'न संशयः' (निस्संदेह) उनकी निराशा की पराकाष्ठा है। वे तार्किक रूप से सोच रहे हैं कि शत्रु, जो राम को नहीं मार सके, उन्होंने राम की सबसे प्रिय वस्तु को नष्ट कर दिया होगा।
