राज्य भ्रष्टस्य दीनस्य दण्डकान् परिधावतः ।
क्व सा दुःख सहाया मे वैदेही तनु मध्यमा ॥३-५८-३॥
rājyabhraṣṭasya dīnasya daṇḍakān paridhāvataḥ |
kva sā duḥkhasahāyā me vaidehī tanumadhyamā ॥3-58-3॥
Translation
Where is she, that slender-waisted Vaidehi, the companion in my sorrow, for I am one deprived of the kingdom, wretched, and running through the Dandaka forest?

राज्य से भ्रष्ट (वंचित), दीन और दंडकवन में भटकने वाले मुझ (अभागे) की दुःख-सहचरी, कृश कटि वाली वह वैदेही कहाँ है?
English Commentary
Rama articulates his vulnerability. Stripped of his kingdom ('rajya-bhrashta') and wandering the wilderness, he views himself as wretched. Sita is defined here not just as a wife, but as 'duhkha-sahaya'—his partner in suffering. She was the anchor that made his exile bearable. By describing her delicate physical form ('tanumadhyama'), Rama juxtaposes her fragility against the harshness of the forest and his own inability to protect her. This verse reveals that without Sita, Rama feels completely destitute; she was the only solace remaining in his stripped-down life.

श्रीराम यहाँ अपनी दयनीय स्थिति का वर्णन करते हैं। वे स्वयं को 'राज्यभ्रष्ट' और 'दीन' कहते हैं। इन कष्टों के बीच सीता ही उनकी एकमात्र 'दुःख-सहाया' (दुःख बाँटने वाली) थीं। सीता के बिना उनका वनवास केवल दंड है; सीता के साथ वह तपस्या या कर्तव्य था। 'तनुमध्यमा' (पतली कमर वाली) सीता के सौंदर्य और सुकुमारता का वर्णन है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि ऐसी कोमल स्त्री इस कठोर वन में अकेली कैसे सुरक्षित रह सकती है। यह श्लोक स्पष्ट करता है कि सीता श्रीराम के अस्तित्व और मानसिक संतुलन का आधार थीं।
