कच्चित् जीवति वैदेही प्राणैः प्रियतरा मम ।
कच्चित् प्रव्राजनम् वीर न मे मिथ्या भविष्यति ॥३-५८-६॥
kaccit jīvati vaidehī prāṇaiḥ priyatarā mama |
kaccit pravrājanam vīra na me mithyā bhaviṣyati ॥3-58-6॥
Translation
Does Vaidehi, who is dearer to me than life, live? O Hero, I hope my exile does not become in vain (false)?
हिंदी अनुवाद
क्या मेरे प्राणों से भी अधिक प्रिय वैदेही जीवित है? हे वीर! कहीं मेरा वनवास (सत्यपालन) व्यर्थ (झूठा) तो नहीं हो जाएगा?
English Commentary
Rama voices a fear that connects his personal loss to his dharmic duty. He asks if Sita, dearer than life, is alive. He then worries that his exile ('pravrajanam') might become 'mithya' (false/futile). The logic is: if Sita dies, Rama will likely die of grief. If he dies, he cannot complete the fourteen-year vow, causing his father's word to fail. Thus, preserving Sita's life is essential not just for his happiness, but for the integrity of the vow (Satya) for which he sacrificed his kingdom. It reveals the immense pressure on Rama to survive and fulfill his duty amidst personal devastation.

इस श्लोक में श्रीराम एक गंभीर धर्मसंकट की ओर संकेत करते हैं। वे वन में अपने पिता के वचन (सत्य) की रक्षा के लिए आए थे। यदि सीता की मृत्यु हो जाती है और राम विरह में प्राण त्याग देते हैं, तो वह 14 वर्ष की अवधि पूरी नहीं कर पाएंगे। यदि वे अवधि पूरी नहीं करते, तो कैकेयी और दशरथ का वचन झूठा हो जाएगा। अतः, 'प्रव्राजनम् मिथ्या' (वनवास का झूठा होना) का भय उन्हें सता रहा है। यहाँ राम का व्यक्तिगत दुःख और उनका 'मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम' वाला दायित्व आपस में टकरा रहे हैं।
