सीता निमित्तम् सौमित्रे मृते मयि गते त्वयि ।
कच्चित् स कामा सुखिता कैकेयी सा भविष्यति ॥३-५८-७॥
sītā nimittam saumitre mṛte mayi gate tvayi |
kaccit sakāmā sukhitā kaikayī sā bhaviṣyati ॥3-58-7॥
Translation
O Son of Sumitra, when I am dead on account of Sita, and you have returned (to Ayodhya), will that Kaikeyi be happy, having her desire fulfilled?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सुमित्रानंदन! सीता के (वियोग के) कारण मेरे मर जाने पर, और तुम्हारे (अकेले अयोध्या) लौट जाने पर, क्या वह कैकेयी अपनी कामना पूर्ण होने से सुखी होगी?
English Commentary
A moment of bitter irony and despair. Rama speaks to Saumitri (Lakshmana) about the potential aftermath of this tragedy. He envisions his own death caused by the loss of Sita. He wonders rhetorically if Kaikeyi will finally be satisfied ('sakama' - one whose desires are met) if he dies and removes the obstacle to Bharata's rule permanently. It reflects Rama's momentary lapse into cynicism, viewing the unfolding tragedy as the fulfillment of the political intrigue that sent him to the forest in the first place.

यहाँ श्रीराम के मन में कड़वाहट और व्यंग्य उभरता है। वे अपनी सौतेली माँ कैकेयी का स्मरण करते हैं। उन्हें लगता है कि नियति वैसा ही कर रही है जैसा कैकेयी चाहती थीं—राम का विनाश। वे परिकल्पना करते हैं कि सीता के वियोग में उनकी मृत्यु निश्चित है। उनके बाद लक्ष्मण अकेले लौटेंगे। इस स्थिति में राम का मार्ग से हट जाना भरत के लिए निष्कंटक राज्य सुनिश्चित करेगा। 'सकामा' (पूर्ण कामना वाली) शब्द में गहरा विषाद है; राम को लगता है कि उनका विनाश ही शायद कैकेयी का अंतिम लक्ष्य था।
