Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
राक्षसेन ईरितम् वाक्यम् त्रसात् त्राहि इति शोभने ।
न भवत्या व्यथा कार्या कुनारी जन सेविता ॥ ॥३-५९-१३॥
Rākṣasena īritam vākyam trasāt trāhi iti śobhane । Na bhavatyā vyathā kāryā kunārī jana sevitā ॥ ॥3-59-13॥
Translation
O beautiful one! That sentence "Save me!" was uttered by the demon out of fear. You should not indulge in such anxiety, which is characteristic of women of little understanding or low breeding.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे शोभने! "रक्षा करो" यह वाक्य भय के कारण उस राक्षस (मारीच) द्वारा कहा गया था। आपको कुनारी (साधारण या निम्न श्रेणी की स्त्रियों) द्वारा सेवित इस प्रकार की व्यथा या चिंता नहीं करनी चाहिए।
English Commentary
In this verse, Lakshmana attempts to stabilize Sita’s panic with logic and an appeal to her noble nature. Addressing her as Śobhane (beautiful/auspicious one), he contrasts her stature with that of a Kunārī (a woman of low breeding or weak resolve). Lakshmana asserts that the cry for help was a mimicry by the demon Maricha in his dying moments. His argument is psychological: he implies that succumbing to such baseless panic is beneath the dignity of the wife of Rama. He tries to anchor her in the reality of Rama’s strength, dismissing the voice as a deception unworthy of her grief.

यहाँ लक्ष्मण जी सीता जी को आश्वस्त करने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं। 'शोभने' संबोधन का प्रयोग करके वे सीता जी की कुलीनता और मानसिक दृढ़ता को याद दिलाना चाहते हैं। लक्ष्मण स्पष्ट करते हैं कि जो करुण पुकार सुनाई दी, वह राम की नहीं अपितु मरते हुए मायावी राक्षस की थी। वे 'कुनारी जन सेविता' का प्रयोग कर सीता को सचेत करते हैं कि घबराहट और बिना सत्य जाने विलाप करना वीरांगनाओं का नहीं, बल्कि साधारण स्त्रियों का स्वभाव है। लक्ष्मण का तर्क है कि राम जैसे महापराक्रमी का इस प्रकार सहायता के लिए चिल्लाना असंभव है, इसलिए सीता को अपना धैर्य नहीं खोना चाहिए।
