एवम् उक्ता तु वैदेही परिमोहित चेतना ।
उवाच अश्रूणि मुंचन्ती दारुणम् माम् इदम् वचः ॥ ॥३-५९-१६॥
Evam uktā tu vaidehī parimohita cetanā । Uvāca aśrūṇi muñcantī dāruṇam mām idam vacaḥ ॥ ॥3-59-16॥
Translation
Being thus spoken to, Vaidehi, her mind overwhelmed by delusion, shedding tears, spoke these harsh words to me.

(लक्ष्मण द्वारा) इस प्रकार कहे जाने पर, भय और मोह से आच्छन्न चेतना वाली वैदेही (सीता) ने आँसू बहाते हुए मुझसे यह कठोर वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse marks the pivotal moment where logic fails against hysteria. Despite Lakshmana’s rational assurances, Sita is described as parimohita cetanā—her consciousness completely deluded by fear and grief. Instead of being calmed, she reacts with hostility. Lakshmana notes that she spoke dāruṇam vacaḥ (harsh/cruel words) while weeping. This transition highlights the psychological fragility of the moment; intense emotional stress leads Sita to misconstrue Lakshmana's steadfastness as apathy or treachery, setting the stage for the tragic insults that force Lakshmana to leave her side.
