भावो मयि तव अत्यर्थम् पाप एव निवेशितः ।
विनष्टे भ्रातरि प्राप्तुम् न च त्वम् माम् अवाप्स्यसि ॥ ॥३-५९-१७॥
Bhāvo mayi tava atyartham pāpa eva niveśitaḥ । Vinaṣṭe bhrātari prāptum na ca tvam mām avāpsyasi ॥ ॥3-59-17॥
Translation
"Your mind is harboring a great sin regarding me. You wish to possess me once your brother is dead, but you shall never obtain me."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(सीता कहती हैं) "मेरे प्रति तुम्हारे मन में अत्यंत पाप (खोट) भरा हुआ है। तुम चाहते हो कि भाई (राम) के नष्ट होने पर तुम मुझे प्राप्त कर लो, किंतु तुम मुझे कभी प्राप्त नहीं कर सकोगे।"
English Commentary
This is arguably the most painful accusation in the epic. Sita, blinded by panic, accuses Lakshmana of harboring pāpa (sin/lust) towards her. She explicitly states his alleged motive: that he is refusing to save Rama so that he may inherit Sita as his wife once his brother is dead. For Lakshmana, who reveres Sita as a mother figure, this accusation is a spiritual and emotional assault. This moment illustrates the catastrophic power of delusion (moha), causing Sita to attack her most loyal protector with the weapon of character assassination, thereby sealing her own defenseless fate.
