न एवम् अर्हथ माम् वक्तुम् आज्ञाप्यः अहम् तपस्विनाम् ।
केवलेन स्व कार्येण प्रवेष्टव्यम् वनम् मया ॥ ॥३-६-२२॥
Na evam arhatha mām vaktum ājñāpyaḥ aham tapasvinām |
Kevalena sva kāryeṇa praveṣṭavyam vanam mayā ॥3-6-22॥
Translation
You ought not to speak to me in this manner (imploringly); I am to be commanded by the ascetics. It is for my own purpose alone that I have entered the forest.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(श्रीराम ने कहा) आपको मुझसे इस प्रकार (प्रार्थना के स्वर में) नहीं कहना चाहिए; मैं तो तपस्वियों की आज्ञा का पालन करने वाला सेवक हूँ। (वास्तव में) यह मेरा ही कार्य है जिसके लिए मैंने वन में प्रवेश किया है।
English Commentary
Rama displays profound humility here. Instead of accepting the position of a superior benefactor, he places himself as a subordinate to the sages, stating he is Ajnapyah—one who receives orders. He reframes the context of his exile: he implies that protecting the sages is not a favor he is doing for them, but his own duty and purpose (Sva karyena). This redefines his exile not as a tragedy, but as a divine mission to restore Dharma by serving the spiritual community.

यह श्लोक श्रीराम की परम विनम्रता का परिचायक है। यद्यपि वे रक्षक हैं, फिर भी वे स्वयं को ऋषियों का 'आज्ञाप्य' (आज्ञा का पालन करने वाला) मानते हैं। वे ऋषियों से कहते हैं कि उन्हें 'याचना' नहीं, बल्कि 'आदेश' देना चाहिए। 'केवलेन स्व कार्येण' का भाव यह है कि संतों की सेवा करना और दुष्टों का नाश करना ही उनका व्यक्तिगत प्रयोजन है। श्रीराम वनवास को दंड नहीं, बल्कि ऋषियों की सेवा का अवसर मान रहे हैं। यह 'दास्य भक्ति' और 'राजधर्म' का अद्भुत संगम है।
