Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विश्रुतः त्रिषु लोकेषु यशसा विक्रमेण च ।
पितृ व्रतत्वम् सत्यम् च त्वयि धर्मः च पुष्कलः ॥ ॥३-६-९॥
viśrutaḥ triṣu lokeṣu yaśasā vikrameṇa ca । pitṛ vratatvam satyam ca tvayi dharmaḥ ca puṣkalaḥ ॥ ॥3-6-9॥
Translation
You are renowned in the three worlds for your fame and valor. Devotion to your father's vows, truthfulness, and Dharma abide in you in their entirety.

आप अपने यश और पराक्रम के कारण तीनों लोकों में विख्यात हैं। आप में पितृ-भक्ति (पिता के वचन का पालन), सत्य और धर्म पूर्ण रूप से विद्यमान है।
English Commentary
The sages are establishing Rama's eligibility before stating their grievance. They acknowledge not just his martial strength (vikrama) but his moral fortitude. The mention of pitṛ vratatvam (adherence to father’s vow) is strategic; it recognizes that Rama is in the forest out of duty, proving his unwavering commitment to righteousness. The phrase dharmaḥ ca puṣkalaḥ suggests that Dharma is present in Rama in its most abundant and complete form. This preamble serves to bind Rama to the upcoming request by appealing to his own nature as the perfect upholder of values.

ऋषिगण अपनी विनती रखने से पहले राम की पात्रता (Eligibility) सिद्ध कर रहे हैं। वे राम के केवल बाहुबल ('विक्रम') की ही नहीं, बल्कि उनके नैतिक बल की भी प्रशंसा कर रहे हैं। 'पितृ व्रतत्वम्' का उल्लेख यहाँ विशेष प्रासंगिक है; ऋषियों को पता है कि राम वन में पिता की आज्ञा से आए हैं, अर्थात वे कर्तव्य-पालन के लिए किसी भी हद तक जा सकते हैं। 'धर्मः च पुष्कलः' (पुष्कल धर्म) का अर्थ है कि राम में धर्म अपने पूर्ण, समृद्ध रूप में है। यह भूमिका है उस निवेदन की, जिसमें वे राम को उनके 'क्षत्रिय धर्म' का स्मरण दिलाने जा रहे हैं।
