यदि ताल त्वया दृष्टा पक्व ताल फल स्तनी ।
कथयस्व वरारोहाम् कारुण्यम् यदि ते मयि ॥ ॥३-६०-१८॥
Yadi tāla tvayā dṛṣṭā pakva tāla phala stanī |
Kathayasva varārohām kāruṇyam yadi te mayi ॥3-60-18॥
Translation
O Tala tree! If you have seen that beautiful woman whose breasts resemble ripe Tala fruits, and if you have any pity for me, tell me about her.

हे ताल वृक्ष! यदि तुमने पके हुए ताल फल के समान स्तनों वाली उस सुंदरी को देखा है, और यदि तुम्हें मुझ पर दया आती है, तो मुझे उस वरारोहा (सुंदर अंगों वाली) के बारे में बताओ।
English Commentary
Rama addresses the towering Tala (Palm) tree. The height of the tree suggests a vantage point from which it might have witnessed the abduction. He again uses a physical descriptor, comparing Sita’s breasts to 'pakva tāla phala' (ripe palm fruits), a memory triggered by seeing the fruit on the tree. The core emotion here, however, is humility. Rama asks, 'kāruṇyam yadi te mayi' (if you have compassion for me). The mighty prince is reduced to begging a tree for mercy. It highlights the leveling power of grief, where status dissolves, leaving only a pleading human heart.

श्रीराम अब ऊंचे 'ताल' (ताड़) वृक्ष से पूछते हैं। ऊँचा होने के कारण शायद उसने दूर तक देखा हो। यहाँ पुनः 'पक्व ताल फल स्तनी' (पके हुए ताल फल जैसे स्तनों वाली) का उपमान प्रयोग किया गया है। यह स्मरण श्रीराम को विह्वल कर रहा है। लेकिन इस श्लोक का मुख्य भाव 'कारुण्यम्' (करुणा) है। श्रीराम, जो त्रिलोकी के नाथ हैं, एक वृक्ष से दया की भीख मांग रहे हैं ('यदि ते मयि' - यदि मुझ पर दया है)। यह प्रेम में अहंकार के पूर्ण विसर्जन को दर्शाता है। वे केवल एक पति हैं जो अपनी पत्नी के लिए किसी के भी सामने गिड़गिड़ाने को तैयार हैं।
