अहो त्वम् कर्णिकार अद्य पुष्पितः शोभसे भृशम् ।
कर्णिकार प्रियाम् साध्वीम् शंस दृष्टा यदि प्रिया ॥ ॥३-६०-२०॥
Aho tvam karṇikāra adya puṣpitaḥ śobhase bhṛśam |
Karṇikāra priyām sādhvīm śaṃsa dṛṣṭā yadi priyā ॥3-60-20॥

श्रीराम 'कर्णिकार' वृक्ष को फूला हुआ देखकर रुक जाते हैं। 'अहो' शब्द में आश्चर्य और ईर्ष्या का मिश्रण है। वे सोचते हैं कि जब मैं इतना दुखी हूँ, तो यह वृक्ष इतना सुंदर ('शोभसे भृशम्') कैसे हो सकता है? फिर उन्हें याद आता है कि सीता को यह वृक्ष पसंद था ('कर्णिकार प्रियाम्'), इसलिए शायद यह उसके स्वागत में खिला हो। वे सीता के लिए 'साध्वीम्' (पतिव्रता/पवित्र) शब्द का प्रयोग करते हैं, जो यह दर्शाता है कि उन्हें सीता की निष्ठा पर पूर्ण विश्वास है, चाहे वह कहीं भी हो। यह श्लोक प्रकृति के उल्लास और राम के विषाद के बीच के विरोधाभास को रेखांकित करता है।
English Commentary
Rama notices the Karnikara tree in full bloom. The exclamation 'Aho' suggests a mix of wonder and painful contrast. He observes that the tree looks 'śobhase bhṛśam' (exceedingly beautiful), which stands in stark contrast to his own desolate state. Remembering that Sita loved this tree ('karṇikāra priyām'), he hopes its blooming is a sign of her presence. He refers to her as 'sādhvīm' (the chaste/virtuous one), reaffirming his faith in her character even in her absence. He pleads with the beautiful tree to share news of the one who appreciated its beauty the most.
