तिष्ठ तिष्ठ वरारोहे न ते अस्ति करुणा मयि ।
न अत्यर्थम् हास्य शीला असि किम् अर्थम् माम् उपेक्षसे ॥ ॥३-६०-२७॥
Tiṣṭha tiṣṭha varārohe na te asti karuṇā mayi |
Na atyartham hāsya śīlā asi kim artham mām upekṣase ॥3-60-27॥
Translation
Stop, stop, O beautiful one! Do you have no compassion for me? You are not usually so fond of excessive joking; why then do you ignore me?

रुको, रुको! हे सुंदरी (वरारोहे)! क्या तुम्हें मुझ पर दया नहीं आती? तुम तो बहुत अधिक हँसी-मजाक करने वाली नहीं हो, फिर किसलिए मेरी उपेक्षा कर रही हो?
English Commentary
Rama pleads with the illusion to stop. He tries to reason with "Sita," recalling her true nature. He notes that she is not atyartham hasya shila (given to excessive joking or pranks). This indicates that the behavior he is imagining—her running away and ignoring his pain—is out of character for her. This realization deepens his confusion: if she isn't the type to joke like this, why is she ignoring him?

राम सीता के स्वभाव का स्मरण करते हैं। सीता गंभीर स्वभाव की हैं और इतना निष्ठुर मजाक नहीं करतीं, यह सोचकर राम विचलित होते हैं। 'वरारोहे' का अर्थ है सुंदर कटि-प्रदेश वाली स्त्री। राम कहते हैं कि यदि यह मजाक है, तो यह उनकी सहनशक्ति से बाहर है। "किम् अर्थम् माम् उपेक्षसे" (तुम मेरी उपेक्षा क्यों कर रही हो?)—यह प्रश्न एक आहत प्रेमी की पुकार है जो अपनी पत्नी के बदले हुए व्यवहार (जो वास्तव में उनका भ्रम है) को समझ नहीं पा रहा है।
