नूनम् तत् शुभ दंत ओष्ठम् सुनासम् शुभ कुण्डलम् ।
पूर्ण चंद्र निभम् ग्रस्तम् मुखम् निष्प्रभताम् गतम् ॥ ॥३-६०-३१॥
Nūnam tat śubha danta oṣṭham sunāsam śubha kuṇḍalam |
Pūrṇa candra nibham grastam mukham niṣprabhatām gatam ॥3-60-31॥
Translation
Surely that face—with beautiful teeth, lips, and a shapely nose, adorned with auspicious earrings and resembling the full moon—has been devoured and has lost its luster.
हिंदी अनुवाद
निश्चय ही, सुंदर दांतों और होठों वाला, सुंदर नाक और कानों में शुभ कुंडल धारण करने वाला, पूर्ण चंद्रमा के समान वह मुख (राक्षसों द्वारा) ग्रस लिया गया है और अब निस्तेज हो गया है।
English Commentary
Rama painfully reconstructs Sita's face in his memory—her teeth, lips, nose, and earrings—only to juxtapose this beauty with the image of it being devoured (grastam). The face that shone like the full moon is now envisioned as pale and lifeless (nishprabhatam). This detailed anatomical lamentation shows how deeply her image is imprinted on his mind and how agonizing the thought of her physical destruction is to him.
हिंदी टीका
राम सीता के मुख के एक-एक अंग का स्मरण करते हुए विलाप करते हैं। सुंदर नासिका (सुनासम्), दाँत और होंठ—ये सब अब 'ग्रस्तम्' (खा लिए गए) हैं। 'निष्प्रभताम् गतम्' का अर्थ है कि वह मुख, जो चंद्रमा जैसा चमकता था, अब जीवन रहित होकर कांतिहीन हो गया होगा। यहाँ 'स्मृति' संचारी भाव की प्रधानता है, जहाँ प्रेमी प्रिय के अंगों को याद करके दुखी होता है।
